All About Our Program

What Are The Boyd School Classrooms Like?

Montessori considered her emphasis on the environment a primary element in her method. She described this environment as a nourishing place for the child. It is designed to meet the child's needs for self construction and to reveal his personality and growth patterns to us. When parents observe our classrooms, they see children initiating activities, totally involved with doing, creating, talking, and collaborating. The time is theirs, the room is theirs with child size tables, chairs, and shelves filled with attractive learning materials and activities.

The classrooms are comprised of mixed-age groupings: 2-3 (pre-primary), 3-6 (primary) and 6-12 (elementary). This enables children to learn from one another, gain autonomy and develop positive self-esteem. The classrooms are integrated by sex, age, ethnicity race, religion, economic status, and temperament. We create communities in which everyone works, shares, learns, and celebrates together.

Each class has one certified Montessori teacher and one or two assistants. In addition to the Montessori curriculum, we offer music, movement, foreign language (Spanish) physical education and art.
