At the start of a new academic year, many parents are new to Montessori and look to the teachers for guidance on what to expect. To help them understand the Montessori experience
for their child, parent education nights are offered.
Parent Education nights were launched in October at the Herndon Campus. The two areas of the classroom, which we focused on, were Practical Life and Sensorial. There is only one way to really show the importance of Practical Life, by inviting children to demonstrate the materials |
that are in the classroom on a daily basis. Parents had an opportunity to learn how the Dressing Frames help the children to gain a greater sense of independence. They learned how the children create a beautiful environment through flower arranging. Most importantly, the parents got the opportunity to witness why Practical Life is one of the most important areas of the classroom. They gained a greater understanding of how children build a sense of internal order and increase their level of concentration so that we can move on to more complex tasks and concepts. |
Emphasis was placed on the Sensorial area as well. The chance for the parents to see the purpose of the Pink Tower is and how the children work with the Trinomial Cube was truly an eye opening experience for them.
Parent Education Nights will continue at the Herndon Campus with emphasis placed on Math and Language.

12. Finally, the Montessori Method develops the whole personality of the child, not merely his intellectual faculties but also his powers of deliberation, initiative and independent choice, with their emotional complements. By living as a free member of a real social community, the child is trained in those fundamental social qualities, which form the basis of good citizenship.

A Parents Perspective
Why we chose Kindergarten Montessori.
“We choose Montessori for our son because we believe in the Montessori learning environment and how it encourages independence, curiosity, and individualism. From the first year where they are learning basic sensorial skills that help them to do the simplest things like set the table or pour milk for themselves to the Kindergarten year
where they are mastering skills such as multiplication and reading we believe that the Montessori theory of teaching a child how to learn is far more beneficial than simply teaching a child the answer to a question.
For our son, his Kindergarten year was where he truly blossomed and we saw the culmination of all his learning at The Boyd School. We believe his 3 years at Boyd have given him an increased interest in |
learning, a greater understanding of truth and fairness, a better understanding of concepts from grammar and reading comprehension to mathematical operations, and a well rooted understanding of geography, history, social studies, and science.
Just as important his increased independence and confidence have given him a stronger foundation for the trials that will come with elementary school and beyond. We don’t believe he would have achieved this level of academic study combined with personal
development anywhere else.”
