The Start of a Lifetime of Learning

Learning is a constant. Whether it be inside the walls of a school classroom or outside in nature, children are constantly gaining rich experiences that allow for them to grow. Part of the mission of The Boyd School is to instill a life long love of learning within each child. Moving beyond the prepared environment of the classroom allows for children to experience the outside world, to

actively learn and be a part of a community. From toddlers discovering baby garter snakes, to touching the giant wheel of a fire truck, children are experiencing the world around them at The Boyd School.

Once the children reach the elementary and middle school programs at The Boyd School, the students begin the "acquisition of culture." Run Club Promotes Healthy Lifestyle

Students, parents, and staff from several campuses participated in the Stone Ridge Race for Education on Saturday, October 17. The race was the first event of the school year for the Boyd School Run Club. Weather conditions were far from ideal (40° F with a steady drizzle) but that did not dampen the spirits of The Boyd School runners as they participated  in  this  family  friendly

community event. Boyd School students Kacy & Kelly Baumgart, Shantanu Patel from Aldie and Beckham Ytterdahl from Westfields along their moms raced their way through the 6/10 mile Fun Run. The children were all smiles as they finished and received their participation medal. Following the Fun Run was a 5K through the streets of the Stone Ridge community. Parents and staff from Aldie, Broadlands, Herndon, and Westfields completed the 3.1-mile course through the light but consistent precipitation. Impressively, the runners from the Westfields Campus all finished in the top 10 in their respective divisions.

The next event for the run club will be the HerndonTurkey Trot on Saturday, November 21  at  the  Herndon  Centennial  Golf   Course.

Race participants will be contributing canned foods to benefit LINK, an organization dedicated to support those less fortunate in Northern Virginia. This year the race will also mark the close of a two month long used shoe recycling drive. The Turkey Trot will be the last race of 2009. The next scheduled race is the Brambleton Step Sister’s 5K in March.
