Elementary Program
(6 through 12 year olds)

At The Boyd School Elementary children find learning is a lifelong process, a journey of discovery, rather than a matter of completing assignments. They begin to realize that they love to learn. While the primary-aged child, from age three to six may ask the adult, "Help me do it myself" the elementary child asks, "Help me think of it myself."

Upper and Lower Elementary
Programs and Typical Day
Before School 7:30AM-8:30AM
School Day 8:30AM-3:30PM
After School 3:30PM-6PM

Children are encouraged to be at school no later than 8:30 AM.
Our day is exciting, fun and full of activity. The first lessons are given at 8:30 and from that point children are engaged in the work/lessons that they need for the remainder of the morning. We feel that children need long, uninterrupted work periods to fully accomplish their goals in the Montessori classroom.

12:00-12:45-Lunch- Children are involved in all aspects from setting the tables to cleaning up.
12:45-1:15 -Recess- This time is reserved for outside free activity.
1:15-3:00-Afternoon Work Period
3:00-3:30-Clean-Up and Dismissal

During the week we have Spanish, P.E., Sign Language, Music, Junior Great Books, Art/Art appreciation, Silent Reading, Field Trips or Going Out Activities. Most of the activities are integrated across the curriculum however, if we should need to take children away from their work, it is normally only done in the afternoons. The morning work period remains uninterrupted.
